Yup, this is a rough 262 coupe that probably should have been cubed long ago, but considering how few of these are out there, and my naive optimism, I figure it is as good a candidate for being put back on the road as any. After a summer of research and looking for a suitable engine donor, I have been bouncing from "I can do this" to "**** I am so in over my head." Anyway, the goal right now is to plop the engine from a 91 740ti into it, which so far I have been good at taking apart. I hope I can put it back together.

Yikes! Cool cars for sure. I had one in 1981...a '78 with a manual transmission. It was my first Volvo...great car but it was nearly new.

awesome, this one does have the 4 speed manual in it. The last owner planned on giving it a ford 5.0 and got as far as sourcing the ECU. I kind of want to keep everything Volvo with dreams of a 16v turbo but I have never worked on anything this advanced before, the only engine I have ever taken apart and successfully put back together was an air cooled 1500cc VW flat 4 which seems like a tinker toy now.

I have everything disconnected and labeled from the 740 engine, just the fuel line and motor/ transmission mounts to go, and bring in the crane. Not really knowing what I am doing I have labeled everything, so far I am almost through a roll of painters tape, the green is nice and easy to see and should make life easy putting it back together.

One thing I'm not sure about is if I will need the fuel pumps or if the 262 pumps will do. If not, I am thinking it is a safe bet that the in tank pump from the 7 is not going to be a factory fit in the 2 and will need some mods to the tank.

First of all, it would be a shame if another V6 gets destroyed. Not that they are particularly good, or smooth, or powerful, or nice sounding... But people still ride Harleys so I figure the PRV-6 isn't completely worthless. Especially the 4-speed parts. If you've still got the flywheel &transmission you could sell those on Tbrix I'm sure.

Having the V6 already be a 4 speed is lucky in another way - you may be able to keep the hydraulic clutch if the master cylinder still works. You may need to get Hose Headquarters to build you a new hose for it but the 740 and 260 parts might not mate up. I'm not sure about the 6 cylinder crossmember, though - I don't think it's any different from a 240 but maybe. You're going to need some 240 motor mount pedestals obviously. You also are going to need the shifter junk from a 240 because the 740 linkage and bracketry are too far back, and the V6 stuff is even longer. Then again, you're going to need a million and three other bits.

The fuel pumps in the 262 should be more than enough for the turbo. I have used plenty of non-turbo K-jet pumps in my turbo Volvo modding days. Provided the pumps work, they'll provide a ton of pressure and volume. They're not crazy, but they're more than enough for a couple hundred horsepower.

thanks guys

I got the car without the engine, I am guessing it met with some kind of catastrophic failure and was removed with some sort of intention of replacement.

I didn't know about the linkage, oh man. those million and 3 little bits are kind of scaring me right now.
